Frequently Asked Questions
- What is an outlier video?
- An outlier video is one that gets significantly more views than the channel's subscriber count would predict. We calculate an "outlier score" by dividing the video's view count by the channel's subscriber count. A score of 10x means the video has 10 times more views than the channel has subscribers.
- How often is the data updated?
- Our system collects new data every day at 06:00 UTC. It searches for recent videos across different categories and scores any that qualify as outliers.
- What qualifies as an outlier?
- A video must have at least 10,000 views and come from a channel with fewer than 50,000 subscribers. The outlier score is then calculated as views divided by subscribers.
- Why focus on small channels?
- Small channels producing viral content often indicate trending topics, strong content quality, or untapped niches. Studying these outliers helps creators and marketers spot opportunities early.
- Can I filter by video category?
- Yes. Use the category dropdown to filter outliers by YouTube category such as Education, Gaming, Entertainment, Science & Technology, and more.
- How is the outlier score calculated?
- The outlier score is simply the video's view count divided by the channel's subscriber count. For example, a video with 500,000 views on a channel with 5,000 subscribers has an outlier score of 100x.
