Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about using SocialNorn, privacy, data accuracy, and support.
General
What is SocialNorn?
SocialNorn is a free tool for looking up public YouTube video metadata — titles, descriptions, tags, thumbnails, view counts, and more. It gives creators and researchers quick access to video details in one place.
Do I need an account?
No account is required. Simply paste a YouTube video URL or ID into the search bar and the metadata loads instantly. There is nothing to sign up for.
Is it free?
Yes, all public video lookups are completely free. SocialNorn is supported by the creators behind it and may introduce optional premium features in the future, but core lookups will remain free.
Which URL formats work?
SocialNorn accepts standard YouTube watch links (youtube.com/watch?v=...), Shorts links (youtube.com/shorts/...), share links (youtu.be/...), and raw 11-character video IDs. Just paste whatever you have and it will be r…
What does it return?
Each lookup returns the video title, trimmed description, channel name, publish date, view/like/comment counts, all available thumbnail resolutions, tags (when present), category, duration, and approximate revenue estim…
Data & privacy
What do you store?
SocialNorn does not store your lookup history. Results may be briefly cached to improve performance, but no personal data is retained or tied to individual users.
Do you use cookies?
Only minimal cookies for theme preferences (dark/light mode). No tracking cookies are set. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What analytics run?
Only basic, aggregate usage metrics. There is no profiling of individual viewing habits, and no personal data is sold or shared with third parties.
Do I need an API key?
No. SocialNorn handles everything on the backend. You just paste a video URL or ID and get results — no setup or credentials needed.
Accuracy & limits
How accurate is the data?
The metadata reflects what YouTube reports publicly. View counts and stats may lag slightly compared to real-time dashboards, but the information is sourced directly from YouTube.
Why is some data missing?
Videos that are private, deleted, age-restricted, or region-locked may not have accessible metadata. Some creators also choose not to publish tags, so those fields may appear empty.
How fresh is the data?
Data is fetched when you search. Results may be briefly cached for performance. If you need the very latest numbers, try again shortly.
How are revenue estimates calculated?
Revenue estimates are based on publicly available industry RPM ranges applied to the video's view count. These are rough ballpark figures — actual creator earnings depend on many factors not visible to the public.
Why is revenue different elsewhere?
Every tool uses its own assumptions and methods. No third-party estimate can match a creator's actual Analytics dashboard. Treat all external revenue figures as approximate.
Usage & support
Can I use this for work?
Yes, SocialNorn is suitable for personal use, content research, and internal analysis. Please respect YouTube's Terms of Service and API usage policies when using the data commercially.
Are there rate limits?
Yes, excessive automated requests may be throttled to keep the service fair. Normal usage is unaffected.
How do I report a bug?
Email hello@socialnorn.com with a description of the issue, the video URL or ID you tried, and what you expected to happen. Screenshots are helpful if applicable.
What if a fetch fails?
Occasional failures can happen due to temporary API issues or network hiccups. Wait a moment and try again. If the problem persists for a specific video, email the video ID to hello@socialnorn.com so we can investigate.
